I’ve watched both episodes of new Top Gear now, and I’ve gotta say. . . I don’t understand all the disappointment. Sure, they don’t have the same chemistry as the old trio had after so many years. Sure, the new star segment is a bit rubbish. And I’m not the biggest fan of Chris Evans.
All that aside, I think its redeemable. The Jenson Button segment was hilarious. Matt LeBlanc is fun to watch. They’ve already had some killer cars. Why so much hate for the series? Pretty soon, we’ll have the hamster, orangutan, and Captain Slowly back together doing things we probably never will, plus this new spin on the old favorite. I don’t see whats not to like.
On the other hand, I have some excitement tomorrow. Going to a Pick’n’Pull yard to get some goodies for my Volvo. I love places like that and cant wait to be among hundreds of cars to find what I need. We shall see how that goes.

Sniff Petrol has it right.
“The new series of Top Gear has been met with anger as fans took to the internet to complain that the show was not like the version they used to complain about"

Junkyards are fun - remember going to one to get bits for my 140 series Volvos.

This is change. People are scared of change. So people grab their virtual pitchforks and yell about shit on the Internet.
I happen to liked the episodes as well. Ep 2 was quite a bit better than ep 1 I found. I think it’s headed in a good direction.

The first episode was full of awkward moments, hardly any laughs and the challenge was boring.
The second episode was much better. The crowd laughter is still canned, but that could be as much as the shooting taking 4 hours or so to complete and the crowd getting bored.

There are only 3 problems I can find with the show:
1. The risks are too low,
2. Evans is high-strung to a fault, and
3. Chris Harris is in it, which kinda-sorta makes people a little too optimistic and expectant.
Frankly, Ginger can be made to work in this show, but first he needs to be towed back to the ground, get a slap in the butt, a stern talking-to, and sacrificing his morning radio show to do the program full-time and actually work a little harder to cook up any sort of chemistry.

I agree. Sure it’s not as entertaining as the old trio was, but honestly I was watching them much more for the chemistry than for the cars themselves. Proof of that is that I loved watching the video May posted of Clarkson building a DHL box. They are just pure entertainment.
The new Top Gear is pretty refreshing if I’m honest, and the chemistry between Evans and LeBlanc is not that bad at all. It’s more friendly than banter, but I don’t think there’s anything wrong with that.
People just have weird expectations. If it did copy OldGear, people would have said “naaaah they’re just like OldGear, but worst”. And now that they are going for something different, everyone is going “naaaah it’s just not the same anymore”. Haters gonna hate.
I think it’s fine. Sure, too much guests and not enough Chris Harris for my taste, but we did have some great cars and great looking films. And sure it’s a bit too corporate and stuff, but honestly as long as it’s about cool cars, I’m kinda ok with that. I know it when they do something because the brands want them too, so it’s fine.
They’ll fine tune it, and it’ll be a great little car show. People had the wrong expectations: it was never going to be the worldwide phenomenon that OldGear was. It’s just the best funded car show on air right now, and people should be happy with that.
And as you said, why are people even complaining at all? It’s not like ClarkHamMay were dead or something. If anything, the whole shebang has given us a more free Trio on Amazon, and a better funded sort-of-Fifth Gear on the BBC. Now if only they could get Tiff with Chris Harris...

...plus Evans pronounces Porsche “Porsch”.

Evans is what is spoiling it for me. His tone is just off, and it seems like that’s the only tone he has. The rest is not so bad. I am quite happy that the US Top gear has evolved into something different from the UK show that I find myself really enjoying.

Haven’t really gotten into TGUS, but I pretty much agree on Evans. He has some improving to do.

Totally agree. Can’t wait for the new crew to come into their own and for the old trio to keep on clowning.

I’m not sure risks can be expected in the first few episodes, but I think Evans needs to relax a bit and Harris needs to come out more. There is potential there.

I call it improvement and hopefully that will continue!

Well, change is good. That’s why I keep so much in my cupholder.

Hugely excited to get to pick and pull my own parts, prices are impossibly cheap. 11.99 for a front bumper? 55 for a turbocharger? Small parts .99 per 10? Can’t beat it.

Could’t have gotten it any more right.
